Boeing 787: the most modern aircraft ever made

The attacks on the Twin Towers occurred in 2001 brought profound changes to the entire world economy, especially in the value of oil. Virtually all industry sectors felt the high fuel prices, but there are few activities that are so sensitive to this difficulty as commercial aviation.

It was not long until the consumption of 15,000 liters of fuel for every hour of flight of the majestic Boeing 747-400 started to be too costly for airlines, considering the slump in demand for tickets.

Adding financial problems to the new wave of concern about the environment that began to emerge, the need for a modern and economical aircraft was evident. After almost ten years of development, research and delays, Boeing answer came with the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

Once Boeing announced to be open for orders of new aircraft in 2007, the 787 has already set a record, the largest number of preorders for a commercial jet. More than 50 different customers ordered 677 units, with deliveries beginning dated to 2008.

However, the first Dreamliner only  fly in late September 2011, three years later than promised. Furthermore, develop and build the "dream aircraft"  also proved to be more difficult and expensive than expected, considering that the total cost of the project has already reached $ 32 billion.

The first and most important innovation to be noticed is the fuel economy. Adding the high efficiency of the new engines to lighter materials and improved aerodynamics, the Boeing 787 can be up to 20% more efficient than any other plane of the same size.

Furthermore, the Dreamliner can operate both with Rolls-Royce as with General Electric, giving companies greater flexibility when required maintenance. Another important aspect (especially for those who live close to airports) is the reduced noise that the engines produce.

The wings, fuselage and many other parts of the aircraft were built with reinforced carbon fiber instead of the traditional iron and steel, causing the aircraft to be much lighter without losing its strength.

One of the features that drew the most attention of the first passengers who might experience a trip on the 787 windows were large and modern. In place of the old plastic curtain, the Dreamliner uses an electronic system that makes the window become lighter or darker, something like the lens of the glasses that darken in the sun.

The distinct shape of the wings, combined with an intelligent system that regulates the wing surface also makes the Dreamliner pass smoothly through turbulent wind currents. Boeing ensures that passengers will feel the 787 eight times less queasy during turbulence, and less frightened.

EU wants to fine United States because of Boeing

The European Union wants to fine United States because of Boeing.

9300 million is the fine that the European Union wants to be passed to the United States not to withdraw their aids to Boeing. The EU yesterday requested the World Trade Organization that pass the ticket. The case is a classic.

After years, Washington was able to recognize that ensured competitive advantages for Boeing 737 and 787 jets. The affected models were A320, A320 and A350 from European rival, Airbus. The competent organ of the WTO had determined last year that the American manufacturer has received illegal state aid, the EU supports these claims have not yet been withdrawn.

But the WTO also dictated, in 2010, a few million euros of EU support for Airbus were illegal. The two blocks are fighting over how to comply with WTO rulings. After all, it is unlikely that the fine be converted into cash.

Boeing plans to accelerate production of 787

Boeing said on Wednesday that put its global supply chain of parts under control for the production of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and plans to increase the number of airplanes assembled.

The company has equipped at least four 747s with larger airframes, nicknamed "Dreamlifters" to gather pieces from around the world for its jets 787, assembled in Washington and North Carolina, USA.

Boeing is trying to compensate for delays caused in part by difficulties in the management of the 325 suppliers that produce parts for the 787 in 5000 factories around the world.

Boeing produces three and a half units of carbon composite jet per month. The company plans to increase production to five per month by the end of the year and raise that number to 10 per month by the end of 2013.

"We had some mistakes along the way. We are currently on track to achieve 10 per month," Said Luckey in a presentation in Nagoya, Japan

Boeing wants to release cellphone use during their flights

Boeing 787
Boeing announced that it has begun to upgrade their equipment to allow the aircrafts model 747, 777 and 787 to have some form of connectivity on board, which means that passengers could access some features of their phones without fear.

The forecast is that in 2013, you can receive and make calls on the heights, and connect to Wi-Fi networks and monitor TV broadcasts without putting everyone's safety at risk.

Boeing will need to go through some bureaucracies. The main barrier is proving to government security agencies, as the FAA, that there are no problems in using the device during the takeoff and landing of the aircrafts.
